About GIST – Overview
First German academic venture overseas
Established in 2002, GIST is a subsidiary of Technische Universität München
(TUM) in Singapore and the result of the first German academic venture overseas.
TUM is one of the most innovative institutions of higher learning in Germany. It is renowned for the quality and diverse opportunities it offers its students. Founded in 1868 by King Ludwig II, TUM boasts 12 faculties with 480 professors, 4,000 academic staff members and a student population of 20,000. It has produced a total of 6 Nobel Laureates to date.
GIST works with experts from world-renowned universities
Currently, we run selective Master of Science programmes jointly with TUM, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
These progammes bring together experts from the world-renowned universities and aim to bridge theory, industry knowledge and research together, so as to better qualify young professionals for technology-oriented leadership roles in a competitive global economy.
We have the rare privilege of engaging the deans and professors from TUM, NTU and NUS for our lectures. The professors from TUM, including its president, visit Singapore regularly for lectures and network with students.
GIST in research
Another vital mission of GIST is to coordinate research programmes where scientists and researchers from both Germany and Singapore can work together for the advancement of science and technology.
GIST graduates shine through
Since its inception, GIST has produced over 150 graduates.
Many of our graduates come from countries including China, India, Nigeria, France, and Germany, Poland as well as some Asean countries.
The majority of our graduates now hold senior positions in companies in their home country.

There are also a significant number of them who are currently pursuing their doctoral degrees with TUM or with other universities in Germany and USA.
